Currently in Portland — October 12th, 2023: A little sunshine returning
Plus, our new global warming reality, in one terrifying graph.
The weather, currently.
Thursday brings back a little sunshine.
If you’re tired of the rain, you’re in luck. Thursday (and probably Friday, too) we’re getting some sunshine. Thursday will start with some significant morning fog, so be cautious on your commute (drive/bike with lights on!) but by the afternoon, we should have a lovely, partly sunny day. The temp will reach the high 60s, which isn’t exactly warm, but it’s warm enough for enjoying the sun’s rays. Try to get outside and soak them up, if you can. It’ll also be a good day for any raking or outdoor chores created by all the wind so far this week, or any lingering garden work like bulb or seed planting.
What you need to know, currently.
A new comprehensive summary of September’s shocking global temperature record was published on Wednesday. It’s worth a read in its entirety — it give an overview of exactly what happened, why, and what we can expect over the coming year or so as a result.
I’ll leave it at that. This graph says it all.
We are in a climate emergency.
